Natalie Goldstein’s Bat Mitzvah

HI! My name is Natalie Goldstein and I am an 8th grader at The Brandeis School of San Francisco. I love to hang out with my friends, my brother (Jonny), my dog (Izzy), and my parents. I enjoy cross country and swimming on the Pacifica Sea Lions Swim Team.

Becoming a Bat Mitzvah has been an empowering experience and I couldn’t have made it to this day without my teachers, tutors, family, and the CBS community. Thank you to my tutor, Sandra Menachem, for helping me learn everything in preparation for my Bat Mitzvah and to Rabbi Russel for working with me on my drash.

This week’s Torah portion is Parshat Ki Teitzei. It is a summary of 74 of the 613 commandments. These are rules on how to treat animals, plants and other humans. It shows us how to respect our elders and what could happen to children when we don’t follow the values in these commandments. In the Torah it says that misbehaved children could even get stoned to death! But, I will talk more about this soon. I look forward to seeing everyone on Shabbat and sharing more thoughts about Parashat Ki Teitzei.
