Lucy Browning’s Bat Mitzvah

Lucy Browning will be called to the Torah as a Bat Mitzvah on Saturday, November 18. She will read from Parsha Toldot and her D’var explores the sibling tension between Esau and Jacob and particularly the role Rebekah plays in positioning Jacob for the birthright blessing.

Lucy is in eighth grade at the Brandeis School of San Francisco. She enjoys riding horses, playing volleyball, hanging out with friends, baking and wood sculpting. Lucy and her family have been members of Beth Sholom for many years and she’s excited to be joined by her family, friends and the Beth Sholom’s B'nei Mitzvah Program community on this important day.

Lucy would like to thank her wonderful tutor Marilyn Heiss for teaching her to read Hebrew and read from the Torah, and Rabbi Russell for her guidance on her D’var Torah. She would also like to thank her parents, Mimi Browning, Jonathan Browning and stepmom Aliza Aber for all their support along her Bat Mitzvah journey. Special thanks to her older sister, Izzy, for paving the way with her Bat Mitzvah at Beth Sholom and to her younger sisters Asha and Willa, for sharing in all the excitement and family preparation to get to this day.
