Isaac Samuel Susal’s Bar Mitzvah

Isaac Samuel Susal will be called to the Torah as a Bar Mitzvah on Saturday, October 14 to read Parshat Bereshit.  Following the service, we’ll celebrate together at Kiddush.

Isaac, who is of Ashkenazi and Moroccan Sephardic background, will chant his Torah and Haftarah in the Sephardic melody – and will read from a Sephardic Torah that was dedicated in memory of his grandfather, Sam Abecassis.  We look forward to celebrating with the entire community for this unique service.

Isaac has attended Beth Sholom Shabbat School and Bar Mitzvah classes and spends his years looking forward to his summers at Camp Ramah in Ojai, CA.  Isaac also attends services at Beth Sholom’s neighbor, Congregation Anshey Sfard.  Isaac is excited to welcome local and faraway friends and relatives on this day.

Isaac is a 7th grader at Town School for Boys.  He enjoys tennis, soccer, cooking things up (delicious food and various other projects), and now (believe it or not) chanting Torah!  He loves spending time with friends from near and far, his large-ish family, his sister Sofia, his little brother Andrew, and his dog Luna.

Isaac would like to thank his tutor, Avyatar Alfassi and Rabbi Russell for their teachings on the service and Torah, David Brandes and Rabbi Peretz Mochkin for their help on his D’var Torah, and the wonderful CBS Staff for helping to orchestrate this special event.
