September with Sages of the Ages

Fillmore District Walking Tour

Sunday, September 8th at 10:30 a.m.

In the early 1900’s, San Francisco’s multi-ethnic Fillmore District was home to the second largest Jewish neighborhood west of the Mississippi. This once thriving community was home to Kosher bakeries, markets and restaurants. Most of the Jews of the Fillmore left the neighborhood by the 1950s and the SF Redevelopment Agency’s projects in the area erased most of this history.

Howard Freedman, Jewish Community Library Director and CBS member, will lead a walking tour of the neighborhood and share knowledge and stories of the Jewish community that lived there. The walk will be roughly 1 ½ hours long and we will be covering a little over 2 miles. You will be given final information, including meet-up place after registering.

*There are a limited number of spaces available and this tour is open to CBS members (in the Sages age range) only, please.
