December Family of the Month: Afergan

Meet the Afergan family: Dan, Becky, Zoe (8), and Mira (5). The Afergans first connected with CBS after moving to California in 2015, attending High Holiday services. Their involvement grew in 2021 when Zoe and Mira began attending the preschool here. Today, they actively participate in the Moadon and Shabbat School.

Purimpalooza! is a family favorite, but the Afergans also love the variety of events at Beth Sholom, including Havdalah, Shabbat for Kids, and the welcoming, supportive community they’ve found here.

Shabbat is their favorite Jewish tradition. Each week, they bake homemade challah together, and Zoe and Mira lead the blessings over the candles, grape juice, and challah.

A fun fact about the Afergans: Dan grew up attending Beth Sholom in Framingham, MA, while Becky grew up attending Beth Sholom in Anchorage, AK. Talk about serendipity!
