It is a custom to study one chapter of Pirkei Avot (Ethics of the Fathers) on each Shabbat afternoon between Pesach and Shavuot. Pikrei Avot focuses on lessons of ethics and humility, which the Rabbis felt would help us to prepare for “receiving the Torah” on Shavuot!
