Congregation Beth Sholom is a holy community, providing an opportunity for people to come together around Jewish practice, learning, values, culture, and shared interests. We are a home for many ways our congregants seek to gather, and we are always looking to bring people together to work toward common goals and to simply enjoy being with each other in community. Below are some of the groups that have formed at Beth Sholom to serve the wider community and bring more joy into the lives of those who participate.

The Sages of the Ages (AKA The Sages)

The Sages of the Ages is an informal group for congregants 55 years and older who are looking to mingle, schmooze, and most importantly have fun together. Possible events include a variety of social activities, speakers, films, holiday celebrations, and who knows what else?

If you would like to be included in future mailings, please email us.

Chesed v'Tzedek

Do you look around and see injustice? More people than ever on the street, the environment in crisis, people's rights being taken away?

Please join us in expressing our Jewish values of chesed (loving kindness) and tzedek (justice) through ACTION, while building community, learning, and having fun.

We put on food drives, educational opportunities, and community events. We meet about once a month and would love to have you be a part of our communal effort to give back/make positive change.

SOCIALIZE AND SUPPORT OUR DEMOCRACY

Our monthly postcard writing session comes to Beth Sholom on April 2nd at 6:30 p.m. Our goal is to encourage marginalized people to return to the voting polls.  Postcards are not partisan; provide election info; and registrar info to check on voter status. Please RSVP to chesed@bethsolomsf.org so we can have a packet ready for you — see you April 2nd!

BOOK CLUB

Three Floors Up by Eshkol Nevo
10:15 a.m. on Saturday, May 11, in the Board Room

Three tenants in a suburban Tel Aviv apartment building each tell their stories, and in the process explore the connections between identity, memory and loneliness. The first in an urgent conversation with an old friend, now a writer, in a restaurant; the second in a rambling letter to an old friend now in the U.S.; and the third in short clips to an answering machine.

Books are available to pick up at the Beth Sholom front office.
